The Taste of Randolph Street and a Homemade Hummus Recipe

Well they called for thunderstorms all weekend but we got nothing but sunshine! We decided to hit up the Taste of Randolph, an annual food festival where all of the restaurants on that street have booths where you can taste some of the items on their menu. I got this kabob with grilled veggies

I have been wanting to make my own hummus for a while now but was intimidated for some reason. Much to my delight, it was so simple, it was laughable! It actually tasted better than the store bought too. Not to mention how cheap it is to make! This is the perfect recipe to make if you are entertaining or just for a quick healthy snack!

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of chickpeas (or garbanzo beans)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic
  • Tahini or soy sauce
  • 2-4 tablespoons of lemon juice (depending how lemony you want it)
  • water (until you reach desired consistancy)
  • Cayenne pepper (a pinch of two – depending how spicy you want it)
  • Optional: pine nuts, parley, paprika, oil

Directions:

1. Combine all in ingredients in a food processor and let it run until smooth. That’s it!

Did anyone do anything fun this weekend?

What is your favorite healthy, go-to snack?

  1. Did you peel the garbanzo beans? I never have, but I think next time I make hummus I’m going to try that. I love super garlicky hummus, mmmm.

  2. I love making my own hummus! I like to add whole raw cloves and a little fresh oregano to mine. Also, kalamata olives are a great addition. As for my favorite healthy snack, I think it’s either hummus or fresh homemade guacamole.

  3. i love homemade hummus! it’s definitely one of my fave snacks…along with almonds, but not at the same time. ew.

  4. I’ve been craving hummus like crazy lately and this is not helping! I made roasted red pepper hummus before but that was when my food processor was still alive. I am in the process of moving and that will be the first thing I buy when I get into my new place.

  7. I love making my own hummus – it’s so much cheaper AND tastes better than store bought hummus. I sometimes add “fun” mix-ins like pine nuts, cilantro, sun dried tomatoes, or basil. Very yummy!

We made kabobs this past weekend – I always forget how much I love them and how truly easy they are to make. 🙂

  8. I have made my own hummus and it is so much better then store bought. I am going to make your recipe next. Looks like it was a really fun festival!
